Who we are
Who We Are
Law Enforcement Associated Defense (LEAD) is a Utah-based independent police association built by public safety professionals, for public safety professionals. We exist for one reason: to support the men and women who serve and protect our communities.
LEAD was founded by a group of local first responders who saw a need for something different, an association that puts members first, operates with full transparency, and answers only to the people it serves. We are self-funded through member dues, which means our priorities are set by our members, not outside interests.
What We Do
Our primary mission is to provide legal defense coverage to full-time first responders, including officers, deputies, and dispatchers.
Every day, first responders make split-second decisions in high-stress situations. When critical incidents occur, such as use of force, officer-involved shootings, or other events in the line of duty, those individuals can be exposed to personal liability. This includes criminal charges, civil lawsuits, and administrative actions. These situations can be career-altering and financially devastating, and the legal support needed often goes beyond what an employer provides.
That's where LEAD steps in. We ensure our members have access to experienced legal representation when they need it most, so they're not left facing these challenges alone.
But LEAD is more than legal coverage. We are a community. We bring members together through events, meetings, and shared purpose. We believe in looking out for one another—on duty and off.
We also believe in giving back. Community outreach is part of who we are. The relationship between first responders and the public they serve matters, and we're committed to strengthening that bond.
Supporting Our Retirees
Our commitment doesn't end when the uniform comes off. LEAD proudly supports retirees, honoring their years of service by helping them transition to a happy and healthy retirement. Once part of LEAD, always part of the family.
